Meet your instructor!
Hey! I’m Kristen, and I’m so excited to meet all of you!
I hold a Bachelor of Arts from UNCG and Master of Science from ECU. As a licensed speech language pathologist, I have worked in public schools, home health, and private practice clinics with children of all ages. I especially enjoy working with birth to kindergarten students because learning through play is just so much fun!
My goal is to create a joyful space for families to navigate their early childhood journey and create connections with their baby and other families. Baby and me classes were integral for me and my own child in the first three years so I understand the positive impact these connections can make.
When I’m not busy working or momming, you can find me reading, singing, or gardening. I’m so excited about supporting families as we sing, play, and learn together!
Your Questions, Answered
-
We offer a range of solutions designed to Not at all. Happy Talk classes are for all children. They are meant to support early communication development, strengthen caregiver confidence, and build connection—whether your child is just beginning to communicate or already using words.
Please note that early language enrichment classes are educational in nature and are not a substitute for speech-language therapy or clinical evaluation.
-
Caregivers attend and participate alongside their child. These classes are designed to support both children and the adults who love them.
-
All of your baby’s favorite grown-ups are welcome: parents, grandparents, nannies/sitters, etc. If you have more than one adult joining for class, just shoot us an email and let us know to ensure enough space!
-
Age ranges are used as a general guide, but we really look at the child—not just the number. If your child would benefit from a particular class based on their communication style, interests, or developmental stage, they may still be a great fit. If you’re unsure which class is best, feel free to reach out—I’m happy to help you decide.
-
Absolutely. Children are welcome to engage in whatever way feels right for them. There’s no expectation to sit still, participate “perfectly,” or follow along the whole time. All communication styles, personalities, and energy levels are welcome.
-
We use simple signs and gestures to support early communication and connection. Signs can reduce frustration, support language development, and give children another way to express themselves. Signs are taught thoughtfully and with respect for Deaf culture, as a support—not a replacement—for spoken language.
-
Happy Talk classes are intentionally designed for specific age groups to support safety, engagement, and a positive experience for all families.
We understand that childcare isn’t always available, so sibling attendance may be permitted on a case-by-case basis when:
• There is adequate space in the class
• The sibling can remain with their caregiver
• The overall class experience will not be disrupted
If a class is at or near capacity, siblings may require registration as a paid spot or may not be able to attend.
We always recommend reaching out ahead of time so we can find the best option for your family.
